Plan Ahead On Your European Vacation

eiffel_towerEurope is a top world travel destination attracting millions of travelers from around the world annually. There are many reasons why European vacations are so popular, whether it be Europe’s unique history, Castles and Palaces, easy going lifestyle, beach life, food and culture.  In Europe, there is always something new mixed in with the old, and because of this, there are many cities and countries just waiting to be explored.  You could spend a lifetime traveling across Europe and always find something new to see and do, there is just so much that Europe can offer. But in order to take advantage of the abundance available on a European Vacation, it is important that you plan your trip right. A well planned trip means that you are an active participant on your travels, and not a lost meandering tourist with no where to go. Best of all, when you plan your trip correctly, you will not only have a better time, but you will also save more money.

As mentioned on an earlier post ‘Traveling? Don’t Forget Your Travel Guides’, you will need a travel guide to get started. There are many European Travel guides that will assist you in planning your itinerary, and therefore travel guides are a must on any European Vacation. Your next task is to purchase a map of the country or countries that you are planning to visit. Although travel guides often have maps included, they are usually too small and inadequate for your European Journey, make sure you’ve got a folding tourist map that includes a list of all the special sites and scenic points on your journey, these maps pay for themselves many times over and therefore worth the money. Using your folding map, plot all of the points of interest that you are planning on visiting, and stick to it. A general rule is to make the hotel or hostel that you are staying at as the starting point and then plan your trip from there. It’s a great idea to do a little of everything, and not to get stuck on one thing, for example, if all you do is travel from one scenic point to another you will become bored quickly. So be sure to add social venues into your itinerary, such as restaurants, famous hotels or city tours, museums and cafes, remember variety is the spice of life, but don’t over-do this either. Remember, you are on vacation so it’s a good idea to slow down and enjoy your surroundings, you’ll be amazed at how much there is to see if you slow down for a few hours per day. The rule of thumb is to plan for some down time throughout the day, perhaps a few hours in the morning, afternoon and evening, and remember to keep the experience fresh, you are a tourist and this is the time to act like one.

With your route planned out in advance, you will find that everything will flow much easier, and best of all you will have a great time because you will avoid many of the pitfalls that other tourists who haven’t planned ahead make. Planning your European Vacation is an intelligent thing to do, and you will be glad that you took the time because your European Trip will be the best ever.
