Although travel guides often have maps included, they are usually too small and inadequate for your European Journey, make sure you’ve got a folding tourist map that includes a list of all the special sites and scenic points on your journey, these maps pay for themselves many times over and therefore worth the money. Using your folding map, plot all of the points of interest that you are planning on visiting, and stick to it. A general rule is to make the hotel or hostel that you are staying at as the starting point and then plan your trip from there. It’s a great idea to do a little of everything, and not to get stuck on one thing, for example, if all you do is travel from one scenic point to another you will become bored quickly. So be sure to add social venues into your itinerary, such as restaurants, famous hotels or city tours, museums and cafes, remember variety is the spice of life, but don’t over-do this either. Remember, you are on vacation so it’s a good idea to slow down and enjoy your surroundings, you’ll be amazed at how much there is to see if you slow down for a few hours per day. The rule of thumb is to plan for some down time throughout the day, perhaps a few hours in the morning, afternoon and evening, and remember to keep the experience fresh, you are a tourist and this is the time to act like one.

Travel agents are looking for repeat visitors, and therefore will try to provide as much accurate information as possible, and that makes their advice invaluable.
4. Tourist Offices: Tourist offices can help you in finding the best locations to sight-see as well as directing you to the most touristic parts of a city. And since the tourist office is located in the country you are planning on visiting, they can also assist you in avoiding places unsafe for tourists.
